Mortgage into Retirement & Reverse Mortgages · Vancouver Island & BC

Your home can support the retirement you have earned.

Retirement changes the questions you ask about your home. Maybe you want to supplement your income, help your children with a down payment, fund a renovation, or improve your monthly cash flow, all without giving up the home you love.

You have options, from traditional financing to reverse mortgages, and the right one depends entirely on your goals. Since 2009, I have helped homeowners across Vancouver Island and all of BC look at every path honestly, with no pressure.

What we cover together

Every option, explained honestly.

What a reverse mortgage is, and whether it fits your situation
How much of your home's value you may be able to access, generally up to 55 percent
How traditional refinancing compares as an alternative
Supplementing income, or accessing a tax-free lump sum, without selling
Helping adult children with a down payment
How each option affects your equity over time, so nothing is a surprise

Why work with me

A reverse mortgage is not right for everyone. I will tell you honestly.

A reverse mortgage can be genuinely life-changing for the right person, but it is not the right fit for everyone. Sometimes a traditional refinance or another option serves you better. I explain each path in plain language, including what it costs and how it affects your equity, so your decision is fully informed and your family is looked after.

You work directly with me, and because my process is fully virtual, I help homeowners across the Island and all of BC.

Common questions

Retirement mortgage questions I am asked all the time

Do not see your question here? Book a free consultation and I will answer it directly.

  • Who qualifies for a reverse mortgage in Canada?

Canadian homeowners aged 55 or older who own their primary residence. If the home is jointly owned, both owners generally must be 55 or older. The home must be in reasonable condition and in an eligible area. I will confirm whether you qualify.

  • Do I have to make monthly payments on a reverse mortgage?

No. With a reverse mortgage, no monthly mortgage payments are required. Interest accrues and is added to the balance, which is repaid when you sell, move out, or pass away. This is a big part of why it appeals to homeowners who want to ease their cash flow.

  • How much can I access with a reverse mortgage?

Generally up to about 55 percent of your home's value, depending on your age, your home's location, and the lender. The older you are, the more you can typically access. I will give you a realistic estimate for your situation.

  • Is a reverse mortgage right for me?

It can be genuinely life-changing for the right person, but it is not the right fit for everyone. Sometimes a traditional refinance or another option serves you better. I will give you an honest, pressure-free assessment.

  • Do I have to live near Port Alberni to work with you?

Not at all. My process is fully virtual, so I help homeowners across Vancouver Island and all of British Columbia through phone, video, secure document uploads and electronic signatures.
